Summer Fly Fishing
Olympic Peninsula Steelhead

Our Summer Steelhead and sea-run Cutthroat Trout fly fishing is in full swing from July through September while bright winter run Steelhead from 6 to 20+ lbs are plentiful in the Bogachiel River, Calawah River, Sol-Duc River and Hoh River during the months of November, December,  January, February, March & April.

Bogachiel River Steelhead

Fly fishing for Trophy wild Steelhead begins to kick into high gear in February on most all of our Olympic Peninsula's west coast rivers. And is in full swing until the middle of April. These magnificent wild Steelhead ascend our coastal rivers and streams to propagate and regenerate their ancient cycle of life, and during this late winter/early spring season it is not at all uncommon for an angler to bring to hand a mature wild buck steelhead in excess of 20Lbs.

Steelhead Fly patterns

For many years we have had a strict catch and release policy on wild steelhead, Pacific Salmon and Cutthroat Trout. We do however condone the retention  of hatchery planted Steelhead and Salmon.

This is an excellent fly pattern for both summer and winter Steelhead here on the Olympic Peninsula rivers and in British Columbia.

Enter total length of your fish in inches.

Enter girth/circumference of fish.
this is measured just in front of the dorsal fin.

Approximate weight of your fish is: lbs!!
This calculation is based on what the Dep't of Fish and Wildlife uses.
There are numerous calculations on getting the approximate weight of your
Steelhead, Trout or Salmon. Formulas such as length cubed divided by 2300 or
length x girth squared divided by 800 are all valid and can give
you basically the same results, plus or minus a few lbs.
